Hasselt

On our initial visit to Belgium we stayed in the town of Hasselt. Jim's job is a 20 minute drive away in the town of Genk. We had the option to live in several communities surrounding Genk. Sort of like choosing to live in Choudrant or Dubach or Arcadia, etc. if you work in Ruston.

We ultimately decided to make our home in Hasselt and are now searching for a suitable and permanent place to live. We definitely need more than one slapkamer (bedroom) and a tuin (garden - or what we'd call a very little yard) for the hond (dog). :)

Hasselt is about the size of Longview in population with about 70 to 75,000 people, but a little denser. Longview has about 500 people per sq km and Hasselt has almost 700 per sq km. It's also a very old city - founded in the 7th century. I just realized that it's the biggest city we've ever lived in! Here's a photo of the general look of the city.
