The Embassy

Well, this was a major disappointment. Only because we didn't get to go there!

The building that houses the Texas Embassy in London was once the home of White Star shipping line, owners of the Titanic. And for a quick history lesson . . . in the 1800's, Texas demanded their independence from Mexico and they battled it out at the Alamo. Then came the Battle of San Jacinto and Sam Houston and thus the Republic of Texas was born. Even though some Texans think they still are a "whole other country", from 1836 to 1845 they actually were.

This new Republic built an embassy in London back then, but since Texas doesn't need an embassy, what better use than a Tex-Mex restaurant - serving my favorite food and drink. By the time we learned of this fabulous place it was Christmas Eve and as many Londoners do . . . they closed their doors and went home. "No margaritas for you."

We were disappointed, but not surprised either. You can be sure we will be there on our next visit. We hear that with a Texas driver's license you can get a free margarita.

And we happen to have one of those.

yeeHa!
