Delft

Delftware is the blue and white pottery made in and around Delft in the Netherlands. We visited Delft and purchased a couple of pieces of the famous Delftware.

The authentic Delftware is still hand-painted and the buyer receives a certificate of authenticity when purchasing a product.

When we were shopping, the shopkeeper explained the difference between the souvenirs at the front of the store and the realstuff in the back. She said the authentic hand-painted items will not have "hand-painted" stamped in English on the bottom. I guess I should have been able to figure that out :-|

Pottery aside, this is a very quaint little city. It reminded me of a little Amsterdam. Or as Josh said . . . Amsterdamje :)

The town square was bustling with people - probably mostly tourists, but still nice. After all, that's what we were.

Jim noticed this guy applying gold leaf . . .

so we got a few pictures.

Although this side trip was unplanned . . .

I'm glad we made a stop in Delft.
