Salzburg

Salzburg (population 150,000) may be best known as the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. I love that movie "Amadeus".

The Salzach River.
I'm really proud of this picture.

Very quaint shopping areas.

The Christmas Market was open and very busy.

Frankly, I have no idea what this is.
It's really pretty though, isn't it?

Atop the hill you can see Hohensalzburg Castle, constructed in 1077 by an Archbishop, the fortress has been used for many things including a prison. It is one of the most well preserved castles in Europe and is a tourist attraction today.

The Dom zu Salzburg, which I never got a good picture of due to the Christmas market, was completed in 1628 on the site of where a cathedral has stood since 774. In 1944, the cathedral was destroyed by an aerial bomb and was rebuilt and open for services in 1959.
