This is Wijnkasteel Genoels-Elderen in Riemst, Belgie
The first castle Genoelselderen, built in the 13th century burned in 1407. In the 18th century a second version was destroyed by the French. The present building was rebuilt in 1859 and is planted with 22 hectares of vineyards.
Metric lesson for the day: 1 hectare is about 2 1/2 acres
We were fortunate enough to visit the castle recently for a celebration of the anniversaries of many Belgian businesses. As you can see, there was quite a crowd.
There were a few speeches and awards were handed out.
Here we are in the photo of companies celebrating 10 years. We're sort of near the top left.
Close up.
Prior to Norbord acquiring the Genk operations in 2004, the facility was a family owned business started in the 1960's.
The champagne and awards were followed by a really nice buffet dinner served with wine from their very own winery.
Standing room only.
Congratulations, Norbord Genk!
Next post will be Family Day.
We were also in attendance 5 years ago at the previous Family Day at Norbord.
Everyone at the plant goes the extra mile to make this a special event. It's nice for everyone to get to show off their family members and for the families to see exactly where their loved ones spend their days. To be continued . . .
