We visited some old friends in Moosch, France. The Walters (pronounced Val-tare). You may remember from a previous post that Randi and Emilie were exchange students in high school and we've kept in touch with their family all these years.
As we drove through the part of France known as Alsace, where the Walters live, there were lots of vineyards along the highway.
I hope the pictures aren't too small so you can see that these are all vineyards.
Randi and Emilie
Jim and Ross and I were lucky enough to get to see the Walters at Christmas 2009, but this was the first visit for Randi and her family. Randi had not seen them in more than 10 years.
Anne Marie made her famous and delicious kugelhopf cake while Jean Paul served us local champagne.
This is Emilie and David's daughter Adelie. She was so sweet. Never heard a peep out of her and she really liked Jim!
While Jim and Jean Paul went to a local Alsace vineyard for some wine for us to take home, the rest of us took a walk in the neighborhood.
Then it was on to Emilie and David's for dinner. She and David have worked very hard on their little home replacing just about everything including the wiring. They say they have more to do, but it was very nice and homey.
Emilie prepared a typical Alsatian dish - a pizza with homemade dough, creme fraiche, onions and bacon. She is a very good cook. I was so impressed with how easily Emilie and David entertain. She cooked pan after pan of the pizza with various toppings - all similar to the one noted above and David served the entire meal almost in silence. They just knew what to do!
All in all it was a wonderful, albeit short, visit.
These are truly some of sweetest people I've ever known!
