The Sea Port
Port Vell
meaning Old Port
This area was actually one of my favorite in all of Barcelona.
Even though it was chilly, I love the water and palm trees and sailboats.
Barceloneta is a neighborhood constructed during the 18th century. It was a traditional district of sailors and fishermen that borders the Mediterranean Sea.
The buildings are old with many in disrepair. Unlike most commercial beaches, it appears there must be some effort to maintain these buildings and not allow for high-rise hotels.
Mar Mediterrani
The Mediterranean Sea
There was a major clean-up effort prior to the 1992 Olympics and this area is a magnet now to Barcelonans and tourists.
The tall hotels in the distance were also built for the Olympics and are at the site of the Olympic Village.
Ironically, our travel companions had no intention of visiting the beach while we were in Barcelona.
How can you not see this?!
