We've been to Brussels a number of times. The city is big, there are some really nice places to visit, and we've only seen a fraction of it. The Grand Place is beautiful, the Palais de Justice (bigger than St. Peter's Basilica in Rome) is truly spectacular, and I probably shouldn't say it, but the Mannekin Pis is ridiculous. That may constitute Belgian blasphemy. My apology.
So anyway, we ventured to Brussels again, but this time it was to an area called the Low City about a 15-20 minute walk from the Grand Place. It was a trendy area with what appeared to be no tourists. Maybe the first time we've been to a city where we didn't hear as much English as the native language.
Speaking of native language, Brussels has two official languages -Dutch and French. Everything is in both languages. Everything.
Like this street sign.
Top is French, bottom is Dutch.
English - Tanners Street.
It was a Sunday but all the stores and restaurants were open. That is unusual here.
We looked around at the local flea market, window-shopped, and had a wonderful lunch at this Italian restaurant. Definitely worth a return visit.
Maybe not better, but definitely a different Brussels. IMHO.
